Sherlock Holmes Review (5 out of 10)

OK so this is the saying we should all be getting used to by now:

“Everything old is new again…”

We’ve had BOND 2.0, BATMAN 2.0, SUPERMAN 2.0 etc etc etc…. The first BOND with Craig was great and Nolan’s BATMAN movies are amazing.  SUPERMAN was a blown effort and now we have another blown effort in HOLMES 2.0.

Here is a list of the reasons why this movie did not tickle my pickle in no particular order…

* Robert Downey is too recognizable and is very distracting as Holmes.  Should have cast someone who is not in the Depp, Cruise, Downey category.  May I suggest Seth Rogen next time since it is mandatory for him to be in every other movie these days?

* The action scenes felt forced and were pretty lame.  They clearly used computer graphics for a lot of the slam-bang moments and they were boring. For a movie that tried to disregard the traditional Holmes for a bigger action hero Holmes, this means the movie was tedious.

* Guy Ritchie is yesterdays fad.  SNATCH was his last good movie and his style of the super-fast-zoom-back-to-super-slow-mo is getting super tired.  Been there, done that. Hope he is getting his support checks from Madonna…

* The villain was blander than grandmas mashed taters.  Nothing beats a fun villain! Look at the Joker or a lot of Bond villains.  I can’t even remember the villain’s name and I just left the theater!!!!

* The mystery was ok but didn’t grab me….

That is about it for the reasons.  So what worked then???  Uhm… The movie had a funny dog in it… I swear there was a dog in there for a couple of minutes…
